Final Bob Seger Tour Dates Announced for 2011

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band are rounding out the second leg of their hugely successful 2011 North American Tour with a series of dates on the west coast including Los Angeles, Oakland, and Phoenix, and topping it all off with a special New Year’s show in Las Vegas. Seger originally conceived his 2011 Tour as a short spring run of 18-20 dates. Due to the overwhelming response from fans, Seger nearly tripled the number of shows. The Vegas performance will be Seger’s 50^th concert in 2011.

On September 13, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band made digital history of their own by offering fans a Free 6-Track Bonus EP on iTunes to celebrate the release of their digitally remastered multi-platinum Nine Tonight and Live Bullet concert albums. During the one week promotion, Seger gave his fans 1,698,000 free downloaded tracks. The two live double albums debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 Catalog Chart at #4 and #7, respectively.

Seger & his Silver Bullet Band’s live performances led to record sales in excess of 51 million including 11 platinum and seven multi-platinum RIAA-certified album awards. Seger holds the distinction in 2010 for the #1 Catalog Album of the Decade for his Greatest Hits, which has sold over nine million copies (U.S.A.) to date, posting an unbroken 17-year streak on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums and Catalog Albums charts.

Nearly three decades after its initial release in 1984, STREET TALK, the debut solo album from Journey lead singer Steve Perry, has been meticulously remastered for a new generation of rock fans who are rediscovering the sonic wonders of vinyl.

The RIAA double-platinum classic, featuring the #1 single "Oh Sherrie" (and follow-up hits "Foolish Heart," "I Believe," "She's Mine" and "Strung Out") will be available as an audiophile 180-gram LP in original artwork, starting November 1, 2011, through Columbia/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. The LP will also come with an exclusive free bonus download of the specially mastered-for-vinyl digital files.
As many long time fans remember, STREET TALK was one of the most successful albums of the original MTV era. The classic video for "Oh Sherrie" - in which Steve lampoons the high-concept video making that was popular at the time - became a memorable touchstone on its own, marking one of the first times an artist broke the standard album-version formula of early MTV. Two other videos, "Foolish Heart" and "Strung Out" followed, with Perry showing his varied roots – namely Soul and Rock music – as well as poking fun at the industry that was rapidly making him a household name.

For the new remastering, Steve worked at long-time industry standard The Mastering Lab in Ojai, CA – using the original master tapes – with engineer Robert Hadley to achieve what he feels is the definitive vinyl version of the album.

"I started with a pristine 24bit/96khz transfer of the original stereo mix and went from there. We used Pro Tools to bring out some of the subtle frequencies and moments in the original mixes that, in the old world of live analog hands-on console mixing would get compromised. Now we can take our time and really make the original tracks shine. This hybrid of analog and digital is, in my opinion, the wave of the future. The vinyl pressings also sound fantastic! The RTI pressing plant really knows how to take the lacquers we created and press some amazing audiophile-quality vinyl. I truly feel like this is the way this album was supposed to sound!" – Steve Perry

Jesse James Dupree Recuperating Following Motorcycle Accident‏

Jesse James Dupree is recuperating at home following a motorcycle accident on Route 411 by the Georgia / Alabama state line. Dupree was struck by an automobile, suffering a broken left ankle and foot, fractured right arm, and significant bruising to his lower back, alongside a severe case of road rash. The Jackyl front man and co-star of Full Throttle Saloon on Tru-TV is expected to make a full recovery.

Michael Ballard’s Full Throttle Saloon is the “World’s Largest Biker Bar,” a 30-acre enormous indoor/outdoor bar with several large stages, a burn-out pit, a tattoo parlor, zip lines, a wrestling ring, restaurants, dozens of stores, hundreds of cabins for rent and parking for thousands of bikes. It opens for two weeks annually around the Sturgis rally, and the indelible color of the sights and sounds of Sturgis are documented and aired on Tru-TV. Currently seen in 91 million U.S. households, the 17-year-old network features high-stakes, action-packed originals that give viewers access to places and situations they can’t normally experience. The DVD is an evening with Rush performing their classic hits and features the legendary Moving Pictures album live in its entirety. Released in 1981, Moving Pictures was their most successful album to date, certified 4x Platinum and features some of Rush’s most well known songs and perennial radio favorites, including “Tom Sawyer,” “Limelight” and the Grammy®-nominated instrumental “YYZ.”

Captured in April at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans arena during the renowned trio’s extensive Time Machine world tour, TIME MACHINE 2011: Live In Cleveland marks the band’s first live concert filmed in the United States. The choice to record in Cleveland was a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its airwaves, as former WMMS DJ Donna Halper is widely credited for helping break the band in 1974 by spinning “Working Man.” The reinterpreted live version of “Working Man” was the encore closer on the Time Machine tour and is included on this DVD.

In addition to the 26-song concert set, Rush’s notorious concept tour videos will be included: The first short film, entitled “The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 2 ‘Don’t Be Rash,’” and the opening the second set video, The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 17 ‘...and Rock and Roll is My Name.’” The bonus material features outtakes from the short films, an alternate film version video for “Tom Sawyer”, and two rare pieces of Rush live footage from the vault: “Need Some Love” from Laura Second Secondary School with original drummer John Rutsey, and “Anthem” from Passaic New Jersey.

Singer/songwriter Cassidy’s new project entitled Bohème has at last been completed, and the eagerly anticipated solo debut album, is called Follow The Freedom. Hailed by veteran Rolling Stone writer David Fricke as “a vocal dynamo,” the former front woman of the once-acclaimed Antigone Rising, will make her album available later this year on her own Band and Mountain label.

Follow The Freedom marks an extraordinary new chapter in Cassidy’s already remarkable career. With its blue-eyed soul and pop-influenced sound as well as powerful sense of hope and optimism, the album marks a kind of creative rebirth for the Los Angeles-based artist.

Of the departure says Cassidy, “I needed to go back to the beginning, to who I was before the band. I found that girl was still very much there, and had been progressing the whole time.” Then came the reinvention. "Bohème is the name of the project," she says, "but it's also me--who I am and how I feel—a gypsy, a free spirit. I'll always be Cassidy, that's my name, but this is sort of an alter ego, a character I’ve created as I’m starring in this new role of my life."

Co-produced by Cassidy with longtime collaborator Don Boyette (a top session bassist known for his work alongside Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, and Steve Nicks), Bohème’s Follow The Freedom sees the multi-talented musician/entrepeneur crafting a distinctive collection of songs rich with passion, brave emotion, and uncommon style. From the breezy, buoyant “Everything Sunshine” to the reflective “Even the Mistakes and the searing “Thank You for Breaking My Heart,” Bohème invested every bit of heart and soul into the recording and the results are truly triumphant.

Among the album’s many highlights is the stunning title track, which features backing vocals from none other than Journey’s Steve Perry. The legendary lead singer offered his spontaneous support when he surprised Bohème at the studio during the sessions.

“I walked into the studio one day to find Steve Perry hanging out in my mixing bay,” she recalls still with a bit of disbelief . "Before I knew it, he came up with this cool idea for a backing vocal on ‘Follow The Freedom.’ We threw a mic up and sang it together!”

Bohème’s Cassidy led the once-critically acclaimed Antigone Rising as its lead singer and primary songwriter from late 1999 to early 2008. The all-female rock band released four independent albums before ultimately signing to Lava/Atlantic Records. The band’s 2005 major label debut, From the Ground Up, achieved sales exceeding 500,000 on her watch, in part thanks to the support of the original “Starbucks Hear Music” campaign. A powerful live performer, Cassidy shared stages with some of music’s biggest stars, including The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Dave Mathews Band, and her good friend Rob Thomas, who said about the singer, “Cassidy is a born star.”

After more than three decades together, 38 SPECIAL continue to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At every stop, fans ask the same question: "When are you going to record a live album?" And it's for those very fans the band has recorded LIVE FROM TEXAS, an explosive collection of the band's signature songs that are engrained in the fabric of American music that will hit stores August 30, 2011.

The notion of releasing a new live album started to take precedent around the fall of 2009. A desire was growing to showcase a new spirit of 38 SPECIAL, a band that had matured into a tighter unit with an innate ability to read each other on the stage after thousands upon thousands of miles on the road.

"For LIVE FROM TEXAS, we brought our digital equipment out with us and recorded the shows using direct inputs and special audience mics. Then we took it all back to our studio for remixing," said 38 SPECIAL co-founder/guitarist/ vocalist Don Barnes. "We wanted to experiment with the new audio technical advances gained in the last decade. The plan was to make it sound like you're right there in front of the band with the audience all around you, a sense of 'being there.' So, I think there's a noticeable difference. It just rocks! Those crowds out in Texas were massive and all of the classic songs deserved a chance to shine in an enhanced live fashion. I think we were finally able to deliver what we represent onstage."

Their initial idea was to make a live recording available exclusively at the band's shows, with an eye toward having fans take home a copy to carry on the party. But what they found as they listened back - after gleaning select tracks from various cities across Texas - was a blistering new set with a distinct difference in performance as well as audio quality than years before. It grew into an excitedly motivated plan to make available to the world 38 SPECIAL - LIVE FROM TEXAS, a collectively proud history of a band that has made the road a part of its heritage.

In addition to the numerous hits and rock anthems - "Rockin' Into The Night," "Caught Up In You," "Back Where You Belong," "Fantasy Girl," "Hold On Loosely," and "Chain Lightnin," - there is much more. The album also includes a seven-song medley of other popular cuts, as well as a surprise appearance with co-founder/vocalist Donnie Van Zant being joined by his younger brother, Johnny - current lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd - on the only live version of their Van Zant country hit "Help Somebody." The band later goes even wilder on a bombastic encore to reveal some past influences, with rousing renditions of "Back In The U.S.A." and "Travelin' Band."

The high-energy compilation is highlighted by the vocals and guitar work of Danny Chauncey, with Bobby Capps on keys and vocals, bassist Larry "LJ" Junstrom holding the bottom together, and drummer Gary Moffatt providing the driving beat.

"And the magic's still there," adds Van Zant. "It's an emotional high for us to keep 'bringing it' after all these years. That's what you hear on the new live stuff, that sense of urgency and power."

Rock-Horror Icon Alice Cooper Teams With Universal Studios Hollywood to Present "Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare," a Shocking New Maze Premiering at "Halloween Horror Nights"

The legendary Alice Cooper, who single-handedly masterminded the rock-horror genre, will spin a new collection of disturbing horror imagery in "Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare," an outrageous new "Halloween Horror Nights" maze at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event begins on September 23 and continues on select nights through October 31.

Inspired by the rock icon's landmark concept album and its long-awaited sequel "Welcome 2 My Nightmare (Pre-Order here at Amazon)," to be released on September 13 through Universal Music Enterprises," the new attraction will take guests on a terrifying trip through Alice Cooper's twisted mind, where his most famous songs, bizarre themes and demented characters collide inside a living horror movie.

This original, one-of-a-kind walk through experience will feature trademark elements from Alice Cooper's celebrated shows, including guillotine decapitations, electric chairs, a sadistic insane asylum, predatory snake and giant Black Widow spiders that have helped make his imagery timeless and indelible. Music will be a powerful element within the maze and will include both new and classic Alice Cooper material.

Recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Alice Cooper created the concept of the theatrical rock concert and has thrilled generations of fans with spectacular stagecraft and darkly flamboyant showmanship. His recording career spans six decades, includes over two dozen albums, many millions of record sales, countless world tours and appearances in scores of movies and videos, including a brief but memorable appearance in both "Nightmare on Elm Street: Freddy's Dead" and Universal Pictures' "Prince of Darkness."

Alice Cooper Returns with a New Album, New Nightmare

The Long-Awaited Sequel to his 1975 classic out on September 13, 2011

Alice Cooper’s widely anticipated new album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, will be released September 13, 2011, by Universal Music Enterprises. Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum Welcome To My Nightmare album in 1975, the album picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

The original release is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneering U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence persists today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.

More than 35 years later, Alice and Ezrin have resurrected the horror and humor for a new generation.

“This is Alice’s nightmare 35 years later,” explains Alice, “Bob and I created this character and we know how to write for him. I play the part but we’re not writing for me, we’re writing for Alice. We kept the first Nightmare album very personal to us, on this one we found more humor and we were more open. This was our world and we want to present it to the fans. The original album was my first solo album after all those huge hit records with the original band and now that nightmare is exposed, this one can be a little bit more open. The music crosses all sorts of boundaries; we went where the lyrics took us.”

There is an array of collaborators on the new album, including original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith reunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Ke$ha, who affectionately calls Alice “dad”; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice’s current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.

Musically, the album ranges far and wide, from trashing disco to garage punk, pop balladry to a rocking number, very much in the spirit of the Rolling Stones. And then there’s the ballad “Something To Remember Me By,” described by Alice as “the prettiest song we have ever released.”

Glimpses of themes from the original album are intertwined throughout, each track representing a different aspect of Alice’s nightmare.

From the opener, “I Am Made Of You,” through the already established live favorite and first single “I’ll Bite Your Face Off,” to the surprising duet with Ke$ha, “What Baby Wants,” this album is a reminder that albums just aren’t made this way anymore.

And musicians do not play together like Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith anymore.

“I wanted a ‘70s feel for ‘When Hell Comes Home,’ says Alice, “and I didn't even have to ask for it, it's just how they play and they did it live in the studio. When they got done playing the basic track, Bob and I just looked at each other, that sound is built into their DNA. We didn't need to go and fix anything. The way they finished was a little bit ragged, and that's the way we used to finish songs, that's what I like about it.”

Co-writers on various songs include the aforementioned Bob Ezrin, Ke$ha, Dunaway, Bruce and Smith, plus Buckcherry’s Keith Nelson, Desmond Child (who famously co-wrote and produced “Poison” with Alice), longtime collaborator Dick Wagner, current touring band member Chuck Garric, and film composer Jeremy Rubolino.

“That’s my rebellion,” says Alice of the more surprising guests, “I like people that don't belong and yet what they're doing works perfectly. I don't care where it comes from, as long as it's right. If you tell me something doesn't work, I’ll work my head off until it does then shove it down your throat.”

“I think a lot of my audience is going to go 'KE$HA!?', but she probably wrote the most wicked lyrics in the song – we had to rein her in. I like people to know that just because artists are put in a pigeon hole, that doesn't mean that's what they are. Give people a little room.”

With Steve Hunter, one of rock's great guitarists, added to the band's lineup of guitarists Damon Johnson and Tommy Henriksen, bassist Chuck Garric, and drummer Glen Sobel, Alice has been tearing up venues worldwide on his 2011 “No More Mr. Nice Guy” tour.

Alice gave fans an up close and highly personal experience in June with a surprise performance at London’s legendary 100 Club, when actor Johnny Depp joined the band on guitar. Alice showcased the powerful band that had blown away the Download Festival crowd the previous weekend.

This year, the original Alice Cooper group was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and Alice was honored with both the Kerrang! Icon Award in the U.K. and the Revolver Golden God Award in the U.S.

Michael Schenker, Leslie West, and Uli Jon Roth Announce 3 Guitar Heroes Tour‏

Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth and Leslie West have announced that they are combining their collective powers and hitting the road together under the moniker 3 Guitar Heroes. Manager Bob Ringe was the mastermind behind the union, and there are some very special surprises up their collective sleeves for this excursion. Following sets by each of these legends, the evening will climax with a jam of all 3 Heroes on stage together, with special guests earmarked to join them in most markets.

Michael Schenker is a German rock legend. He was a founding member of the Scorpions, and the lead guitarist for UFO prior to launching a highly successful solo career. He is a historical figure in the history of metal guitar, and was honored on November 10, 2010 in London with the Marshall “11” award, a tribute to those who represent rock ‘n’ excess and livin’ on the edge. Schenker is one of the most notorious figures in rock, and enters 2011 with health, an eye for the future, and a legend that precedes him. Schenker will release Temple of Rock this Fall via Inakustik Records. The 14-track album features an all star band accompanying the guitarist and an introduction spoken by Willian Shatner. Alongside the core band of Schenker, Michael Voss (vocals), Herman Rarebell (drums), Pete Way (Bass), and Wayne Findley (Keyboards), more than a dozen special guests make appearances.

Roth is best known for his tenure in the Scorpions, which began following his merger of Dawn Road with Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine. As lead guitarist, main songwriter and occasional lead singer for the band, they released four studio albums between 1974 and 1977, and one live album shortly thereafter which were released shortly after his departure. He formed Electric Sun, a band that was synonymous with strong messages and meaning, as witnessed in the dedication of albums to King Jr, Sadat and others. He went on to perform with symphony orchestras throughout Europe and in the late’90s performed alongside Joe Satriani and Michael Schenker on a G3 European tour. This decade, Roth has made multiple news making appearances both with the Scorpions and the Smashing Pumpkins. Most recently, he released Under A Dark Sky on SPV. Roth has a unique style, and performs with an arsenal of custom guitars made by master luthier Andreas Demetriou. These “Sky” guitars can emulate the high notes of a violin, some of which contain extra frets.

Leslie West is focused on the future and the September 20^th release of his upcoming album Unusual Suspects (Provogue), featuring an assemblage of superstars in their own right that includes Slash, ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde, Steve Lukather, and Joe Bonamassa, alongside drummer Kenny Aronoff . From the Sixties through today, he has been revered by artists and fans alike. He has been in command of one of the biggest, boldest electric guitar tones known to humankind from the 1969 Woodstock Festival that placed his band Mountain in to historical lore through today. His voice is even more recognizable, and the powerful mix of honey and gravel that falls somewhere between Otis Redding and King Kong, never sounded better than it does on the upcoming album. From The Vagrants, through Mountain, and his stops along the way with West, Bruce, Laing and multiple highpoints in a long solo career, West has simply always brought it.

On the plans for this excursion Leslie West shared, “I am honored to be a part of the 3 Guitar Heroes Tour with Uli Roth and Michael Schenker. My manager Bob and I have been discussing a run like this for ages, and when the opportunity came up I hopped on board. That's right - the guy who just had his leg amputated. These guys are monster players and this should be a lot of fun.” Michael Schenker offers, “It is very exciting to be part of a tour that has very deeply rooted connections with two guitarists that have been at their best since the start of their careers. When I was around 14 years-old, I saw a guy on stage playing amazing guitar. It was Uli, and he was around my age. Three years later while with the Scorpions, I chose to join UFO and found the best possible replacement in Uli. I knew my brother Rudolf and Klaus were in good hands. When I was 16 years old, Leslie West was one of my favorite guitarists. He had just recorded “Theme for an Imaginary Western” with Mountain, a song featuring one of my all time favorite lead-breaks on it. Looking back, Leslie is the last guitarist I ever copied seeing that from when I was 17 on, I went completely my own way. So, here we are after all these years on stage together, celebrating the phenomenon - Rock Guitar.”

Expect Country, Doom-Rock and Speed Metal with Cattle Callin

With his own new label, Hank3 Records, and the sense that he has thrown off the chains holding him back creatively, Shelton Hank Williams III, aka Hank3, is coming out swinging this year with the release of FOUR records on September 6 - that's right - FOUR.

The unprecedented launch, in a distribution partnership with Megaforce Records (MRI), features a broad range of music that bridges more than one head-thumping genre - a familiar theme that true Hank3 fans have embraced for years. Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown, a double-album set, is a straight-shooting country collection, flavored with Hank3's trademark hellbilly sound, and heavily weighted with Cajun influence (especially on Guttertown) and an ambient, lonesome mood - and a few very special guests.

Two more releases are Attention Deficit Domination and 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin - intensely metal-driven records on which Hank3 plays all instruments. Attention Deficit Domination is a pressure-dropping, doom rock statement that has been anticipated by his hardcore fans for years, and Cattle Callin explores a new mind-bending "Cattle Core" sound, featuring Hank3's speed metal woven in and around actual cattle auctioneering.

All three projects were recorded at The Haunted Ranch, Hank3's home and studio that lies on the outskirts of Nashville - a fitting place since the town has never really known what to do with this grandson of the American icon. He finally parted ways with Curb Records January 1.

"I have musical freedom. I'm able to say 'Here's my record' and I don't have to go through a million different channels just to put out a song," he says. "It's all me now."

Hank3 wrote the lion's share of the songs that appear on the 41-track Ghost to a Ghost. The players are Andy Gibson on steel guitar and banjo, who also aided in its recording, David McElfresh on fiddle and mandolin, Zach Shedd on standup bass, Daniel Mason on banjo, super-picker Johnny Hiland on guitar, Billy Contreras on fiddle, and Rory Hoffman on accordion.

Guest appearances include the mythical Tom Waits on the haunted "Fadin Moon" from Guttertown and on the Ghost to a Ghost title track, Alan King of Hellstomper, Les Claypool of Primus fame and beyond, Dave Sherman, Troy Medlin and Hank3's dog, Trooper.

Cuts such as "Guttertown," "Ridin The Wave," and "The Devil's Movin In" on Ghost to A Ghost, and "Goin to Guttertown," "The Low Line," and "I'll Save My Tears" on Guttertown highlight both the excellent musicianship on the records, and Hank3's unmistakable, confident vocals.

Attention Deficit Domination allows the listener into Hank3's crunching, metal world of the heavy and the slow, complete with his renowned, fundamental percussion. The nine tracks hardly allow you to get up from the floor. With songs such as "I Feel Sacrificed" and the tormented "Livin Beyond Doom," Hank3 works a ground somewhere between devastation and high theatre.

"Both A.D.D. and Cattle Callin are very intense. It's very manic," Hank3 says. "It's hard to follow, even for the guys I play with. I'm playing everything on these two. It's very complex."

There are 23 tracks on Cattle Callin, featuring Hank3's driving, formidable guitar attack, with instrumentation build around the auctioneering and, in some cases, his own higher-register vocal treatment laid over the top. Metal fans will notice some tongue-in-cheek humor with titles such as "Heavy Cattle" and "Angus of Death." Also, fans of bluegrass will love the banjo-driven "Cattle Callin Lonesome Blues," featuring Mason.

"I was raised around it [cattle auctioneering] and it's pretty amazing how fast these guys are," Hank3 says. "Hip-hop has looped auctioneers. Bluegrass has messed around with it a little bit. This has never been done in the heavy metal world."

The September release of all three projects represents a new birth for Hank3, and he's happy to have the chance.

"Megaforce Records has helped me with my vision to do something that's never been done before," he says. "They're handling my distribution, and I wanted to flood the market and do everything different. I wanted to come out of the gate strong.

"I'm opening up the mind a little bit and bringing some different styles together."

Sturgis, SD --- Full Throttle Saloon founder Mike Ballard, and partner Jesse James Dupree, are headed towards Laconia, NH with three tractor trailer rigs in tow. On their bikes leading the way, the caravan plans to cover the 2000 miles in quick time hitting New England on June 11. The world famous Full Throttle Saloon will be erected in all its glory for the Laconia Rally being held June 11-19, with a production crew on-site filming the action for season three of the hit Tru-TV series.

Originally, Ballard looked in to opening the famed Sturgis attraction in Laconia, but turned towards South Dakota after exploring multiple options. With his legs now under him, a hit television show on Tru-TV, and the resources to continue expanding the brand, the duo made the last minute decision to bring the massive production east. Dupree shared, “Wait until Laconia gets a dose of this circus. Puh Pow!”

In Sturgis, The Throttle is the “World’s Largest Biker Bar,” a 30-acre enormous indoor/outdoor bar with several large stages, a burn-out pit, a tattoo parlor, zip lines, a wrestling ring, restaurants, dozens of stores, hundreds of cabins for rent and parking for thousands of bikes. It opens for two weeks annually around the rally, and the indelible color of the sights and sounds of Sturgis are documented and aired on Tru-TV.

Originally formed in 1971, the New York Dolls are best known for influencing a generation of artists in New York and London who went on to form the first punk rock and heavy metal bands. Rex, the legendary original Dolls lineup only recorded two albums, New York Dolls and Too Much Too Soon, before breaking up in 1976. Band Recording Follow-Up To Their Acclaimed Debut Album

May 17, 2011 - Southhampton, UK trio Band of Skulls are taking some time out from recording their second album to play select tour dates in the U.S. Currently recording at Rockfield Studios in Wales, the band will bring the driving guitar force and Wall of Sound harmonies of their live shows back to the states to play four shows in California before heading to Manchester, TN for their Thursday night slot at the Bonnaroo festival. They will be performing new songs at these shows along with favorites from their debut album 'Baby, Darling, Dollface, Honey.'

After spending two years touring in support of their debut album which was universally embraced by the U.S. press including SPIN (Best of Coachella), Rolling Stone (Best of SXSW) and Entertainment Weekly (Your Next Favorite Band) and culminated with a sold-out show at the Forum in London in late 2010, the band retreated to a studio in Norfolk UK to begin writing the follow-up. They returned to their home studio in Southampton to start the recording which they are now completing in Wales. The album will be mixed by Nick Launay (Grinderman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire) and is scheduled for release in 2012. The album will be preceded by a single and EP released in late 2011.

I'm going to try my best to add some old interviews or reviews from the archives once a week on here covering all genres of music. The first one up is a live show review from back in May of 2003. The concert featured the band Animal and it was held at the now defunct Splash nightclub in Youngstown Ohio......

Out on a short tour to support their debut release 900 LB. STEAM, Animal tore apart The Splash. The musicians that make up Animal are some of the most powerful live performers I’ve witnessed in awhile. Each individual really stood out on their respective instruments. Ex-W.A.S.P. members Randy Piper and Chris Holmes traded off guitar licks the entire show. Both players pushed each other to a higher level in a friendly battle of “guitar wars.” Chris Holmes was like a caged lion thrashing around on a small stage. Randy definitely hasn’t lost any of his guitar chops and he definitely looked like he was having fun on stage as well. The rhythm section of Frankie Garisto (drums) and Burn Coldewey (Bass) laid down a powerful rhythm that kept the adrenalin pumping. Frankie hit the drums hard, without missing a beat, and showed why he is a drummer that’s highly demanded. He’s the type of drummer, that when he hits, you feel it in your chest. Burn was a constant ball of sweaty energy bashing out his bass lines. The snarling vocals were provided courtesy of lead singer Rich Lewis. He belted out the songs with a vengeance.

The set list consisted of almost the entire 900 LB. STEAM release and a few W.A.S.P. songs for the W.A.S.P. fans. Backed by a huge Animal logo, they started off the set with a 1,2,3 punch/kick in the nuts with “900 Lb. Steam,” “Pissed Off” and “Wild Child.” The energy vibe of the crowd increased with each song. Next, they ran through a nice mix of songs off from 900 LB. STEAM that was met with the approval of the crowd. “Dog Food,” “Another Victim,” and “Medicine Man” were heavy hitters with crunching power. (At about that time in the show, I noticed the crowd starting to make their way over to the merchandise table purchasing Animal’s disc. More on that later.) “On Your Knees” and “L.O.V.E. Machine,” off of the first W.A.S.P. release from nearly 20 years ago, were slightly heavier than the original versions and Rich Lewis sounded incredibly like a pissed off Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. They finished the set with their album closer “Hunting Season.” The speed guitar jam at the end of the song was amazing.

The crowd was fairly decent with standing room only around the stage. Not a packed house, but not a small crowd either. The end of the show came and the band began to leave the stage area. The crowd started to voice their support for the band as the chants for “one more song” began. It was nice to hear the crowd yelling for one more song with passion. After a brief huddle, the band decided to close out the show with the W.A.S.P. song “Animal (F*** Like A Beast).” It was good to see a band play an encore where the crowd actually demanded it. They were all set to head backstage and call it a night, when the crowd just wouldn’t give up. A little pet peeve of mine is when bands go through the motions and plan encores to be a part of their set. I feel that some integrity is lost when bands do that. So, kudos goes out to Animal for coming back out at the wishes of the crowd and not making the encore a part of the regular set.

Animal is definitely a band to check out if you like hard, powerful songs. Just bring your earplugs because these guys play LOUD. I heard a number of people after the show mention that they haven’t heard a band play that loud in recent time. Another thing that deserves to be mentioned is that the crowd was a good mix of old and new school rockers. The band won over the crowd that wasn’t familiar with them. Proof in point and as I mentioned earlier about the crowd heading to the merchandise table- I watched their stacks of CD’s at the merchandise table dwindle down to one by the end of the show. How cool is that? It’s not every day you go to a show and see bands move CD’s like that. Great show. Great band. Period!

On a little side note, I missed the first two opening bands. Sorry goes out to those bands. It was unintentional -- just that damn mapquest got myself (and even the bands) lost. I did catch the Ozzy Osbourne tribute band Ozzmosis. They are out of Dayton, Ohio and if you happen to see them playing in the area. Go check them out. They were definitely entertaining.

Major Pink Floyd new release campaign to include reissues, unreleased music from the archives, collectors' box sets and complete EMI studio recordings remastered

Pink Floyd and EMI Music, whose association dates from 1967, announce a comprehensive release schedule, to be launched on September 26, 2011, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, viral marketing, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album 'Best Of' collection.

The legendary band, who are still one of the most successful and iconic artists of all time, recently signed an agreement with EMI which has allowed the development of a multi-format programme of packages, many containing archive material that has been collated during an extensive process between EMI and Pink Floyd for a range of media formats.

The releases, under the banner Why Pink Floyd ... ?, are designed to appeal to a wide cross section of their fans, with music to excite first time listeners, while super-deluxe box sets will cater to dedicated fans, allowing them to immerse themselves in multi-disc sets, containing alternate takes, unreleased tracks, restored live concert screen films and a live recording of the legendary TheDark Side Of The Moon performance at Wembley in 1974.

A series of different listening experiences have been specially created for this release: in addition to remastered CD's called 'Discovery' and the 'Immersion' CD / DVD / Blu-ray / memorabilia box sets will be a series of 'Experience' Editions - coupling one classic album with a further disc of related content from that album to offer a deeper listening experience.

Roger Faxon, CEO of EMI Group, said: "This is a unique collaboration between EMI and one of the most creative and influential bands in history. We have worked together for more than a year on this programme which incorporates all the elements that have made Pink Floyd one of the most inspiring forces in modern music. Why Pink Floyd? Because their music is without equal and these exciting new releases will allow music fans to rediscover their incredible legacy and demonstrate that an appreciation for artistic quality never goes out of fashion."

Storm Thorgerson, the band's longtime Art Director, has overseen the visual design, including new booklets for all the CD's, new artwork for the box sets and menus for the DVD content. Respected photographer Jill Furmanovsky, has edited books of original unseen photographs. Pink Floyd collaborators James Guthrie (in the US) and Andy Jackson (in the UK) have been in charge of digital remastering to the highest audio and audiovisual standards.

Pink Floyd film archivist Lana Topham has supervised the painstaking restoration of many historic films from Pink Floyd's classic era, included in the 'Immersion' box sets for 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here.'

First to be available on 26 September 2011 will be:

Expanded deluxe and special edition versions of Pink Floyd masterwork TheDark Side Of The Moon, in a 6-disc 'Immersion' box set and 'Experience' 2-disc versions, as well as a collectors' vinyl LP and various digital formats. Plus 14 studio albums, digitally remastered will be available separately or as a box set.
Other initiatives will include a digital marketing plan utilising user-generated content to allow fans to make their own creative contributions to the band's music, plus iPhone Apps which will give a unique insight into Pink Floyd's recorded legacy.

On 7 November 2011, Phase 2 of the releases will include:

Wish You Were Here'Immersion' 5-disc and 'Experience' 2-disc editions, both of which will include bonus material from the band's 1974 Wembley dates, including a 20-minute tour de force live rendition of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', as well as a unique recording of 'Wish You Were Here' featuring the legendary jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. A collectors' vinyl LP will also be available, as will various digital formats.
Released simultaneously will be A Foot In The Door - The Best Of Pink Floyd, a collection of their most well known songs, contained on one album for the first time.

The long-awaited 5.1 version of 'Wish You Were Here,' mixed by James Guthrie, will also be released in parallel via independent label Acoustic Sounds.

The Wall, which has sold 25-million double sets and has become a cultural and political touchstone over the last three decades, will be afforded the same exhaustive treatment on February 27, 2012, with deluxe packages including a 7-disc 'Immersion' set and a 3-disc 'Experience' edition. A collectors' vinyl LP will also be available, as will various digital formats.

New Jersey's Best Albums of the Decade Featured in New Picture Book

In the latter half of 2010, music journalist Gary Wien reviewed over 2,200 CDs by New Jersey artists released between the years 2001-2010. He listened to the good, the bad, and the very ugly yet somehow remained a music fan through it all. His picks for the top 100 albums of the decade are revealed in the upcoming book, "Are You Listening?"

"While New Jersey has seen its ugliest sides dominate the reality TV world in recent years, music is what the state should really be known for," said the author. "New Jersey has played a major role in the country's musical history from jazz to rock and roll and everything in between. This book shows that history continues to be written."

"Are You Listening?" represents a diverse look at New Jersey's rich rock and roll scene. Artists span from all parts of the Garden State including the music scenes of Asbury Park, New Brunswick, Hoboken, Trenton, and Jersey City. Popular national artists like Bruce Springsteen, My Chemical Romance, and The Gaslight Anthem are featured alongside independent singer-songwriters like Keith Monacchio, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Anthony D'Amato. Genres range from the folk of John Gorka to the indie rock of Titus Andronicus; from the Americana of Brian Molnar & the Naked Hearts to the punk of The Bouncing Souls; and from the Beatlesque pop of Fountains of Wayne to the post-hardcore of Thursday.

"Are You Listening?" features stunning color photographs, full record track listings, and stories about each artist and each release. In addition, the book contains a list of the top 100 songs of the decade. At 8.5" x 8.5," the book is designed to represent an oversized compact disc.

"I truly believe this will be the last decade we see compact discs," explained Wien. "The record industry has returned to its roots with digital singles acting as the 45s of old. More and more artists have begun releasing songs individually, rather than wait for enough material to fill an album, which is leading to the end of the album as a concept. Ironically, this was the first decade in which recording a professional album was affordable enough for artists and it will most likely be the last."

"Are You Listening?" will be available online at http://www.NJmusic.org and through online booksellers on June 1. Full-color, black and white, and an interactive e-book version will be available.

Wien has long covered the New Jersey music scene. His first book ("Beyond the Palace") was a comprehensive look at Asbury Park's rock and roll history and contained interviews with over 40 artists. He followed that by creating the popular website AsburyMusic.com and the monthly print publication Upstage Magazine. An online radio station at ThePenguinRocks.com was added shortly thereafter.

From 2003-2008, Wien's work resulted in three consecutive Asbury Music Awards for Top Music Journalist, several awards for Top Music Website and Top Online Radio Station, and one for Top Music Publication in which Upstage Magazine became the first to beat out The Aquarian for the honor. He currently produces a magazine for a national association based in Princeton while freelancing and running the website NewJerseyStage.com.

"Are You Listening?" represents hundreds of hours spent listening to music over the course of six months. Through his years writing and on the radio, Wien had built up a collection of 600-700 CDs by New Jersey artists during the decade; these albums served as his starting point. He then spent several months searching the web for artists with connections to New Jersey. Eventually, he would go through more than 2,200 albums.
"Every time I thought I was near the end, I would find several hundred more to go through," said Wien.

Album Is the Soundtrack to Nikki Sixx’s New York Times Bestselling Book “This is Gonna Hurt”

Sixx:A.M.’s second album, This Is Gonna Hurt – the follow up to 2008’s The Heroin Diaries – has sold over 30,000 copies in its first week and gave the band their first Top 10 debut on The Billboard 200 chart. The 11-track CD that Billboard proclaims “redefines the meaning of beauty” and AOL adds is “boasting 11 radio-baiting tracks” is also the soundtrack to Nikki Sixx’s New York Times bestselling book “This Is Gonna Hurt,” which debuted at #4.

May 11, 2011 -- "Sometimes you've got to burn the past to rise up from the ashes," sings BURN HALO frontman James Hart. What started out as Hart's solo project has been laid to rest and reborn in BURN HALO's sophomore album UP FROM THE ASHES. Due out June 28 on Rawkhead Records (through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group) and produced by Colby Wedgeworth, this new collection confirms BURN HALO's evolution from being essentially a solo project by former 18 Visions singer/songwriter James Hart to a full-blown, collaborative band. The music has grown too, and now marries the anthemic, radio-ready hard rock of their 2009 self-titled debut to metalcore flourishes reminiscent of 18 Visions.

The band-James Hart (vocals), Joey Roxx (guitar), Brandon Lynn (guitar), Aaron Boehler (bass), Dillon Ray (drums)-is already receiving early radio support for the first single, "Tear It Down," from stations such as SiriusXM's "Octane," WIIL (Chicago), KHTQ (Spokane), WCCC (Hartford) and WJJO (Madison). A video for the song will be hitting the TV and Internet airwaves before the end of the month. "We wanted our own identity," says singer James Hart. To achieve that, BURN HALO would collaborate in the studio for the first time. "This album is us. This is BURN HALO," states guitarist Brandon Lynn. Bassist Aaron Boehler was the first to initiate the writing process with drummer Dillon Ray. Brandon and lead guitarist Joey Roxx quickly followed suit and began compositions of their own. It was Brandon who was the real architect in the musical direction of the new album. "Most of the songs we were writing early on were very standard rock songs," says James. "I had written an old song called 'Dakota' that was much more aggressive and a lot heavier," says Brandon. "To me, 'Dakota' is the most important track on the album," explains James. "Without that track, we don't have the album we have." The path was clear and what they would pave out from there would be 11 bone-crushing rock songs that touch on every edge of the rock/metal spectrum.

The future wasn't always so clear for BURN HALO. It took quite a while for their current lineup to come together. "There were just a couple of things that never felt right," said James of touring prior to the recent band additions. It was bassist Aaron Boehler who brought friend and fellow Tulsa, OK resident Brandon Lynn to the band in 2009 when the band needed a fill-in on rhythm guitar. "It just felt right after one rehearsal," James said of Brandon joining BURN HALO. In early 2010, it was Aaron again who had targeted his best friend and previous band mate Dillon Ray to take over on the drums. "The three of us living in Tulsa just gave us a great opportunity to work on the songs for tour," Aaron states. "I had been lobbying for Dillon to join the band since day one."

Songs from the band's debut album, which went on to sell over 25,000 copies, were heard frequently on WWE and ESPN, as well as the season finale of "Friday Night Lights." It also spawned the hit single, "Dirty Little Girl," which features a guest appearance by Avenged Sevenfold's Synyster Gates. Alternative Press had described the album as "...a raucous collection of arena-ready rock songs..." While Outburn had praised: "...this self-titled debut doesn't just rock a little, this disc is loaded with sing-along anthems that will get stuck in your head for days...this is a must have record that will spend more time spinning in your player than sitting on the shelf. 9 out of 10."

On the touring front, the band has already racked up a slew of dates with bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Buckcherry & Papa Roach. They'll be hitting the U.S. concert trail this summer, with dates currently being confirmed.

UO released its first full-length, the Steve Albini-produced Jesus Urge Superstar, in 1989 through Touch and Go Records and steadily began ascending in popularity. Their third release for Touch and Go was helmed by another iconic producer, Butch Vig. By the early 90’s, they were opening on Nirvana’s Nevermind tour and Pearl Jam’s Vs. tour, and eventually signed to Geffen Records, who releasedtheir beloved classic LP, Saturation. The group’s biggest moment in the spotlight came when Quentin Tarantino prominently used their cover of Neil Diamond’s “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” in his film Pulp Fiction. The soundtrack soon became one of the most acclaimed and successful of the decade and Urge’s version of “Girl” became a hit. The band went on to sell over 2.5 million albums, and recently came full circle when they performed at the New York Friar’s Club Roast of Quentin Tarantino this past December.
